IND vs AUS – 1st ODI – Team Previews

India

The Australian and Indian cricket teams, having concluded a gripping Border-Gavaskar Trophy with their eyes set on the World Test Championship final, are now switching gears to prepare for another ICC tournament at the end of the year.

India’s Rohit Sharma is set to lead the team in India vs Australia ODI series but will be absent in the opening game due to personal reasons, with Hardik Pandya taking over the reins as captain. The Indian team has a formidable reputation when playing at home, having won all six of their home ODIs this year against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

However, they will have to contend with the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who is missing his second successive ODI series due to injury. In addition, there are concerns about Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness for the ODI World Cup, but in his absence, Mohammed Siraj has stepped up to lead the pace attack. India’s bowling lineup includes Axar, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep, and Chahal.

Australia

Australia played their last ODI series at home against England in November following the T20 World Cup 2022. They had a clean sweep victory, winning all three matches with dominating performances. However, for the upcoming game, they will be without captain Pat Cummins and star pacer Josh Hazlewood due to various reasons.

Fortunately, Glenn Maxwell has recovered from a lengthy leg injury and will be available to play. Steve Smith will once again lead Australia in the ODI series as he did in the last two matches of the Test series. Even though Australia will miss Cummins and Hazlewood, they have the return of veteran batter David Warner and all-rounder Ashton Agar, who both returned home during the Test series but are now back in India with the national squad.

Moreover, a fit-again Maxwell will strengthen Australia’s middle order and could potentially be their second spinner after Zampa. As the team prepares for the World Cup in October-November 2023, Cummins’ absence will surely be felt, but the team will still be determined to put up a good performance in the ODI series.

IND vs AUS – 1st ODI – Pitch Report and Toss Prediction

The upcoming cricket match in Mumbai is expected to be a high-scoring affair, as the average first-innings total in the last three matches has been 324. The pitch is likely to be conducive to fast bowlers, with pacers accounting for 75% of the wickets in the last three ODIs. However, both teams will likely look to chase upon winning the toss, as the pitch is not expected to significantly change over the course of the game

IND vs AUS – 1st ODI – Match Prediction

India have a terrific record in bilateral ODI cricket, particularly at home. Australia will feel the absence of Cummins and Hazlewood and they might not be able to contain the Indian batting line-up. So we expect an Indian victory at the Wankhede in the 1st ODI.
