The 27th match of the ongoing SA20 franchise tournament in South Africa will be contested between the Super Kings from Johannesburg and the Sunrisers from Eastern Cape. This is a crucial game in the context of the playoffs race as the Super Kings and the Sunrisers are separated by just one point.

  • The Sunrisers are in 2nd place, with 19 points, winning four, losing four and a no result, while the Joburg franchise sits in 4th, with 4 wins, 3 losses and a no result.
  • Faf Du Plessis’s men still have a game in hand over their rivals and the team that wins this will significantly increase their playoff chances.
  • The Sunrisers’ last game against the Durban Super Giants was washed out and the Joburg Kings also suffered the same fate against Paarl Royals.

JSK vs SEC – SA20 – Team Previews

Joburg Super Kings

Faf du Plessis’s team have had a topsy-turvy campaign so far in the SA20. At no point in their campaign have they lost more than twice in a row, while they have not managed a string of consecutive victories either. This can be attributed to the competitive nature of the league in its inaugural season, with every team managing at least three wins.

In their last game against the Paarl Royals, they were on the receiving end of a Buttler-Roy onslaught before the rain arrived to halt the proceedings. The Royals scored 131 for 4 from their 15 overs at that stage and were on course for a big score. Three of the Super Kings’ bowlers conceded at more than 10 rpo.

With Alzaari Joseph leaving the side, his replacement, Matthew Wade, made his debut for the franchise. Although he kept wickets, the fans couldn’t see him in action with the bat and tomorrow’s game will be a good opportunity.

A lot rests on skipper Faf du Plessis’ shoulder to carry the Super Kings’ batting unit. The former Protea skipper is the 2nd highest run-scorer of the tournament with 277 runs. His opening partner and Protea international, Reeza Hendricks, though, has struggled this season, scoring just 103 runs in 7 innings.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

It has been a tournament of lows and highs for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, a sister team for the IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad. After having a difficult start and losing two in a row, they bounced back brilliantly with three successive victories. They now sit in 2nd place with a realistic chance of making it into the semifinals.

Their last game resulted in a washout against the Durban Super Giants after just five overs. The match was moving at a rapid pace as Adam Rossington exploded with five fours and two sixes on his way to 35(18) but the Sunrisers also lost three wickets. They were 53 for 3 in 5.3 overs when the rain arrived.

The Sunrisers have roped in South African white-ball skipper Temba Bavuma into the side after his ton against England and made his debut in the last game. It will be interesting to see how he goes against the pacers of the Super Kings. The addition of Adam Rossington, who is striking at 165, at the top of the order, has proved to be successful, while Jansen has been good as a finisher.

The last time the two sides met, the Joburg Kings came out on the winning side in a low-scoring encounter. Gerald Coetzee and the suspended Phangiso picked up four wickets.

JSK vs SEC – SA20 – Toss Prediction and Pitch report

The spinners did have some assistance in the last game at the Wanderers as both Theekshana and Donavon Ferreira conceded at less than 6 rpo. Captains winning the toss have chosen to bowl first more often in this tournament and this match might not be different.

JSK vs SEC – SA20 – Match Prediction

The last time these two teams faced each other, the Joburg Super Kings came out on top and this time too, they might just edge the Sunrisers. Their bowling looks formidable with Coetzee, Shepherd and Theekshana, while Faf is in great form with the bat.
