AUS vs WI – 2nd T20i – Team Previews
Australia
The primary point of concern for the Australian team is their opening batting lineup. The Aussies won the toss and chose to bowl first in the first T20 game. The bowlers did a great job and dominated most of the game. Josh Hazlewood was responsible for picking some crucial wickets and turned out to be the highest wicket-taker. To support him, Pat Cummins was active with his bowling talent and picked up 2 wickets. Mitchell Starc turned out to be the costliest bowler on Wednesday as he picked up 2 wickets at the cost of 40 runs in 4 overs.
Spinners Maxwell and Zampa carried the momentum created by the pacers but were unable to pick any wickets. After stopping the visitors at 145 runs, it was time for Australian batters to give the finishing touch. The beginning for the Aussies was not as good as expected. Warner, Green and Marsh were the three early wickets and the whole responsibility came on the shoulders of skipper Aaron Finch. Finch provided stability to the team and place a match-winning innings by scoring 58 runs on 53 balls at a strike rate of 109.43.
West Indies
After losing the toss, West Indies had a good start and Kyle Mayers provided momentum to the team. However, there was no other batsman who was able to support him from the other end. Except for Mayers, West Indies batsmen lost their wickets easily and were unable to give stability to the team. At the lower end, Odeon Smith played some brilliant knocks that took the score to 145.
In the bowling department, it was clearly not a day for Kyle Mayers and Sheldon Cottrell. Cottrell picked up 2 wickets at an economy of 12.78 and Mayers was unable to pick any wicket but gave away runs at an economy of 11.00. Alzarri Joseph and Yannic Cariah turned out to be the most economical bowlers on the day. In the next game, the West Indies squad will have to give an overall performance to dominate the Australian squad.
