AUS vs SL – ICC T20 World Cup – Team Preview

Australia

Australia would have never thought that they will witness a defeat in their first game of the tournament and that too from a team which is going through a tough time in international cricket. Australia’s only competition in group A was England but now after facing a loss from New Zealand, things have completely changed in the Aussie camp.

However, the Australian team is known to make comebacks from tough situations and their opposition on Tuesday is already considered a weak T20 squad. It is a good opportunity for Finch and his men to regain their confidence for the rest of the tournament. Apart from David Warner, Australia needs Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell to strike partnerships in the middle order. Finch isn’t looking promising as of now but to change the situation of the team, he will have to focus on the upcoming fixture.

In the last game against the Kiwis, the Aussies used 5 bowlers and that decision didn’t go in the favour of the team. Finch can use Maxwell or Marsh as Cumins and Hazlewood were expensive.

Sri Lanka

The Asia Cup 2022 winners started their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 campaign after a disappointing loss against Namibia. However, they made a comeback immediately in the next game and are expected to continue their winning momentum. They have won three consecutive matches including their first Super 12 fixture against Ireland.

This change in the opening combination worked out well for Sri Lanka as the two added 63 runs for the first wicket. Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa are the key middle-order batsmen who are yet to find their form in this World Cup. Kusal Mendis is the key player for the Lankan squad as he has scored two consecutive fifties.

While Asalanka looked promising in his recent outing against Ireland, Rajapaksa is yet to play an inning that’s fitting of the potential and talent he has. The skipper Dasun Shanaka has delivered some amazing finishes for the side lower down the order.
