NZ vs AFG – ICC T20 World Cup – Team Preview

New Zealand

New Zealand will be happy to see a sudden rise in their game as they defeated the 2021 champions at their home ground. It was a dominating performance by the Kiwi players and the win would have given much-needed confidence for the rest of the tournament. Kane Williamson and his men surprised everyone by starting their world cup campaign with a win.

Since their last year’s performance in T20 cricket, New Zealand has struggled a lot and they are not the favourites to win the T20 World Cup. However, against Australia, the whole team came together and didn’t allow any moment of positivity to the opposition. Finn Allen and Devon Conway gave good momentum to the team and the absence of Martin Guptil was not hurting the team management.

After scoring 200, it was a chance for the bowlers to rise and shine in the game. Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner claimed three wickets apiece while Trent Boult took two to derail Australia’s chase. There were little or no concerns for New Zealand. Williamson’s inability to up the ante was the only aberration.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan lost their first game of the tournament against England but they gave a tough fight and nobody can deny the fact that the team has come out strong in recent years. Afghanistan has some of the best T20 players who can be labelled as the best T20 experts in the world. The team carries the capability to defeat any strong team.

After losing the toss, Afghanistan got an opportunity to bat first against England. The opening partnership was demolished in the initial overs but Ibrahim Zadran and Usman Ghani played some brilliant knocks to bring back the team in the game. It was a slow game for Afghanistan but in front of English bowlers, they were rotating strikes.

Afghanistan squad is known for their bowling. English batsmen target Fareed Ahmad and Azmatullah Omarazi but even then these two picked up wickets just like every other bowler in the team. MCG witnessed a good swing in India vs Pakistan game and hence the pace attack will get the benefit of the same.
