NZ vs SL – ICC T20 World Cup – Team Preview
The Kiwis started their ICC T20 World Cup campaign with a bang as they defeated one of the biggest contenders and former champions Australia in a high-scoring fixture. It was a complete shock as no one expected New Zealand to dominate the game. Their second fixture, against Afghanistan, was dismissed because of the weather conditions. Saturday’s game will be important for the team because it will help them to reach one step closer to the next round.
New Zealand is one of the most unexpected teams in the ongoing tournament. before the beginning of the world cup, they were not in form and all of their primary players were struggling to find out the winning momentum. However, their first fixture against Australia sorted everything out and gave them an opportunity to gain some confidence for the rest of the tournament.
Sri Lanka started off their journey to the ICC T20 World Cup with a huge disappointment after losing the fixture to Namibia. However, they did make a comeback and defeated UAE, Netherlands, and Ireland but lost their last fixture against Australia. It clearly shows that the Asia Cup 2022 winners are not prepared for the big stage like ICC T20 World Cup. It is disappointing to see the whole team failing and unable to win matches against strong teams.
One of the major concerns for the Sri Lankan team management is the poor performance of their opening batsman Kusal Mendis. Against Australia, Mendis was unable to give a good start and lost his wicket at a very early stage. The middle order is also struggling to handle the pressure of a crucial game and the batters are losing wickets easily.
Sri Lankan bowlers also struggled to break Australian partnerships in the last game and if they repeat the same performance, it won’t be good news for Sri Lanka.
