IND vs AUS – BGT – Team Previews

India

During a training session ahead of the 3rd Test, both KL Rahul and Shubman Gill batted, leading some to speculate that it was an audition for Rahul, who was recently stripped of India’s vice-captaincy due to his poor form in Tests. The decision to select Rahul over Gill, who is considered a rising star, has divided opinions in the cricketing world.

However, India seems to have no worries about injuries or tactics, as the pitch is expected to behave similarly to the Nagpur and Delhi tracks. India only needs to ensure that their batsmen score more than the opponents and their spinners do the rest. It is likely that Gill will replace Rahul in the playing XI.

While India is almost certain to qualify for the WTC final, they can still technically miss out if they don’t win the last two Tests and Sri Lanka win 2-0. Similarly, Australia won’t make the final if they lose 4-0 and Sri Lanka win 2-0.

Australia

Australia has had a string of misfortunes on their tour of India so far, with injuries and poor selection decisions contributing to their poor performance in the first two Tests. The team brought several injured players with them to India, and their low total in Nagpur was followed by the injury of experienced opener David Warner, who was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the series.

Josh Hazlewood was also declared unfit for the next two matches, and left-arm spinner Ashton Agar was sent back to Australia after not being selected for the first two games. In addition, skipper Pat Cummins had to rush back to Sydney to be with his ailing mother and will miss the Indore Test.

Despite the return of Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green, who were previously injured, Australia’s selection decisions have also come under scrutiny. The omission of Travis Head for the first Test and the strange decision to bring Ashton Agar over as their second spinner, only to send him back after the Sydney Test, have raised eyebrows. However, with Starc taking Cummins’ place and Steven Smith leading the side, these issues should be manageable.

Despite the recent struggles, there have been some bright spots for Australia. Todd Murphy took 7 wickets in his Test debut in Nagpur, while Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, and Travis Head showed glimpses of hope with their batting performances in Delhi.

IND vs AUS – BGT – Match Prediction

It is looking bleak for the Australians with their captain missing and senior players not stepping up. The Indians are on a roll and should make it 3-0 comfortably.
