The 2023 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) kick starts on February 13, Monday with an encounter between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars. The first match is likely to be a repeat telecast of the final of the last season as the same two teams will be locking horns with each other.

Multan Sultans were phenomenal during the league round last year. They won nine of their total ten games to finish at the top of the points table. The team followed it up with a win against Lahore Qalandars in the Qualifier match to confirm a place in the final showdown. Speaking of Qalandars, they were the second-best team with 12 points under their belt from six wins and four losses. 

After losing to the Sultans, the team had to win a battle against Islamabad United by six runs to reach the final. The final saw complete domination of the Lahore Qalandars as they excelled in all three formats of the game. Batting first in the game, the Shaheen Afridi-led side smacked 180 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Mohammad Hafeez was the star of the night with a sensational knock of 69 runs off 46 balls. 

Chasing the total, Multan Sultans were restricted to a score of 138 runs. The batters failed to put up a good fight as Lahore’s skipper Shaheen Afridi picked three wickets while bowling at an economy rate of 7.5. The team will now be hoping to continue the momentum this season as well and take the trophy home for the second consecutive year.

The team will again play under the leadership of Shaheen Shah Afridi, while they also managed to include Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, and Rashid Khan in the squad. Other notable inclusions on the side include Harry Brook, Shai Hope, and Sam Billings. 

As far as Multan Sultans are concerned, they have also retained their captain Mohammad Rizwan. The team also has a good mix of players with Shan Masood, Shanawaz Dahani, David Miller, Kieron Pollard, and Tim David being their key players.
