The much-hyped tour of 2023 kick-started with a two-match Test series. It was a poor batting performance by the West Indies team as they recorded a defeat by 87 runs. The visiting nation continued the torrid performance in the second game as well to score a loss by a massive 284 runs. 

The three-match One Day series between the two teams started with a canceled match. There was persistent rainfall in East London and thus the first ODI had to be canceled without a ball being bowled. Meanwhile, the Caribbeans bounced back in the tour by smacking a 48-run win in the second One Day International. Batting first, they posted 335 runs on the board courtesy of the skipper Shai Hope. Chasing the total, the hosts were restricted to 287 runs. 

However, the Temba Bavuma-led side was quick to make a comeback in the third ODI. They chased 261 runs with ease in 29.3 overs to register a victory by four wickets. Heinrich Klaasen was the standout performer with the bat with a knock of 119 runs. Meanwhile, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, and Bjorn Fortuin picked two wickets each for South Africa in the first innings.

Notably, South Africa will have an edge on Saturday. The team has a home advantage and also leads a head-to-head record against West Indies by a considerable margin. The Proteas and the Caribbeans have faced each other in 16 matches wherein the former has won ten games while the latter has scored a win six times.
